Terlato Wine Group Named Exclusive Sales & Marketing Agent for Castello di Bolgheri Wines in the US
March 31, 2025 – [Lake Bluff, IL] – Established in 1938, fourth-generation family-owned and operated Terlato Wine Group is pleased to announce its appointment as the official sales and marketing agent for Castello di Bolgheri, the oldest and most historic winery inthe renowned Bolgheri region of Tuscany which is still family-owned and has been passed down for generations. This strategic collaboration marks a significant milestone in Terlato’s commitment to providing exceptional wines to discerning consumers.
Nestled at the end of the iconic cypress-lined avenue of Bolgheri, the historic Castello, which dates to the 13th century, embodies a rich, multi-generational legacy that is deeply woven into the fabric of Italy’s wine heritage.
Castello di Bolgheri winery controls some of the most extensive vineyard holdings in the region. The estate spans the last kilometer before arriving at the town of Bolgheri on one side of the famous Viale dei Cipressi. The cellar, which dates to 1796, is located in the heart of the medieval town and is the oldest in the area.

The cellar’s origins are deeply rooted in Italy’s ancient history. The estate has been continuously overseen by the della Gherardesca family, who have been present in town since before 1200 AD and has been passed down generation to generation. Now in its 30th generation, della Gherardesca’s descendant Federico Zileri Dal Verme has led the winery “Castello di Bolgheri” since the mid-1990s.
Under his guidance, Castello di Bolgheri continues to embrace his family’s secular tradition, focusing on excellence in winemaking. The estate spans 60 hectares of prime vineyards, strategically located in the desirable northern part of Bolgheri where esteemed wineries like Sassicaia, Ornellaia, and Guado Al Tasso thrive. This prime location allows for the production of high-quality wines characterized by rich, complex flavors.
The winemaking philosophy at Castello di Bolgheri emphasizes the pursuit of excellence, with rigorous standards that ensure each bottle reflects the authenticity and character of the Bolgheri region.
