Something Fun, new family-owned business, hosts grand opening

Treasures awaiting to be discovered in Something Fun.
Nearly a year after their official opening, last November, Something Fun, a local, family operated business hosted its Grand Opening last Saturday and Sunday.
There were many fun experiences, giveaways, and samples for visitors. The store, owned by mother-daughter duo Kathie and Richelle, is an interesting place to find unique gifts, many of which are hand-made items.
Although Kathie and Richelle are the owners, their store is an amalgamation of many different vendors, sellers, crafters, and artists. They also sell vintage candies and unique snacks. They decided to host their Grand Opening now, because their store is more accessible and visible than it was last year.
During the celebration, many refreshments were also available to purchase inside the store —including dill pickle popcorn, churro donut holes, gourmet pretzel sticks, and spicy gummy bears.
The store has a relaxed and whimsical feeling, and sections of it are generally separated into one vendor per section, although some vendors chose to share space with others.
There is a lot of handmade jewelry, crochet, and knitted items. One vendor, Judi’s Junk, run by husband-and-wife team, George and Judi Laguna, includes hand-made wire wrapped stones and crystals, dreamcatchers, and interesting things they have picked up on their travels. There are also several metal posters with interesting sayings and pop culture references. Another vendor, Metcalfe Crafts, sells screen prints, bubbles that look like mini potions, burn engraved wood art, and more.
An hour after the opening, the make-and take- jewelry part began, hosted and taught by Nichole of Metcalfe Crafts. The jewelry was made of resin. Visitors could choose from a variety of fillers and glitters to customize their designs. There were options for earrings, pendants, keychains, and more.
The resin was placed in molds and cured using a UV flashlight. The make-and-take event happened on both Saturday and Sunday.
Later in the day. Marti Daglio, a multi-talented artist, offered her talents to do henna and facepainting. Marti also has a vendor section inside the store and does window painting, making the entrance fun, beautiful, festive, and inviting.
For the windows, she generally follows a theme, such as an upcoming holiday, and paints what she feels will draw attention to the store. Marti has been doing facepainting for ten years. She started doing henna a few months ago and has been an artist for several years. She is available to do corporate events and events and festivals in Valley Center, Pala, Pauma, and more, and also hosts painting classes.
