On the West Coast, we do things differently. At CHEK Media – which has been rooted here on Vancouver Island since 1956 – we have been carving our own path as the only local, independent employee-owned TV station in North America. In fact, we’re more than a TV station. We are multi-media content creators, with a wide reach across multiple platforms. We have the number one newscast and news website on Vancouver Island, and we create a wide range of diverse, local programs for West Coast audiences, the type we’d like to see ourselves.

Role Overview 

We’re looking for an experienced General Sales and Marketing Manager. The Sales and Marketing Manager is an integral part of the management team. You will help to guide strategic business decisions as well as have a hands-on role performing day-to-day sales duties. 

Department- Sales 

Reports to: General Manager 

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with Sales Reps, New Media and Marketing Strategist, Programming and Traffic, Community Relations, and Department managers on sales targets, projections, sales opportunities, sponsorships, and new initiatives.
  • Lead the local sales team, providing mentorship, support and guidance.
  • Succession planning within the sales, programming and traffic team, including transitioning team through upcoming retirements.
  • Recruitment, onboarding and training new hires. 
  • Provide relief coverage for Sales reps and maintenance of Sales Accounts as needed.

2. Budget Management and Financial Analysis: 

  • Produce accurate financial sales summaries and forecasting updates. 
  • Oversee Sales Reps meeting their sales targets and work with National and Regional Agencies to ensure they are meeting their sales objectives 
  • Make recommendations on rate card adjustments and set sales budgets for the fiscal year. 

3. Sales and Marketing Initiatives: 

  • Developing and overseeing a digital sales strategy that promotes growth in digital revenues and takes advantage of the company’s multi-media and online assets, including CHEK+, podcasts, CHEK website and social media platforms.
  • You will generate marketing initiatives to create branded content and sponsorship opportunities for CHEK’s various platforms. 
  • Expand sales territories where demand and growth opportunities emerge such as North Island and Vancouver.
  • Provide sales service and maintain key accounts as needed.

Qualifications 

  • University degree, diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience in Marketing, Business and or Broadcasting.
  • 7+ Years of progressive Broadcast Sales leadership experience 
  • 5 + Years of Sales Account Rep experience.
  • CHEK Full-time employees are expected to participate in the employee share ownership program after one year of employment.

  • Work location is Victoria head office and hybrid. May consider other nearby locations with regular sites visits. Full time hours are flexible during standard business hours. Monday-Friday.
